glass of metabolism boosting iced tea. Creamy light brown tea with a white froth on top in a pedestal glass via @artfrommytable

This metabolism boosting tea is creamy and reminds me a lot of an iced chai tea with a kick. You'll want to drink the THM shrinker just because it tastes good, but while you're enjoying your tea, your body will be working hard at speeding up your metabolism and shrinking fat cells.

Creamy iced tea with cinnamon, vanilla and cayenne pepper a little kick in a glass.

The cat's out of the bag.

So the secrets out. I've been following the THM plan for awhile now. In case you aren't familiar, THM stands for Trim Healthy Mama. Have you heard of it?

So it's not really a secret, but I was feeling a little, let's say, 'uncomfortable' in my pants. I feel I need to insert my disclaimer right here. Because if you know me in person, you know I'm a petite sized person. And no one would ever think that I looked like I needed to drop any pounds.

Quart sized mason jar full of oolong tea bags and water.

This wasn't about how I looked to others, it's about how I felt in my skin (and my pants). There, disclaimer said! The result? I'm 17 pounds lighter! You guys! I didn't even know I had that much extra on me! I was going for 8 pounds.

    The Plan~

I'll see if I can give you a brief synopsis on the Trim Healthy Mama. This plan is more about how you pair your foods together than cutting a bunch of stuff out.

Now, yes, you do need to cut some things out. That's pretty standard if you're trying to change your body. But I've found that I really don't miss my old ways, because the benefits far outweigh my old habits.

Also,  there are some excellent substitutions so  I didn't have to compromise my 'real food' philosophy. All eating plans take awhile to adjust to, and this one does too. But I'd say it's well worth it!

Mason jar full of Tea concentrate next to two glasses of metabolism boosting creamy iced tea.

    THM Shrinker

This tea is one of my favorite things to sip on during the day. I love it! I sip it by the pool in the summer, I sip it by the fire in the winter, I sip it while I'm running kids around. I sip it when the holidays are near and when the holidays are here (sorry for going all Dr. Seuss on you).

Trim Healthy Mama Shrinker Tea recipe.

I was drawn to the THM Shrinker for it's metabolism boosting benefits, but I've stayed with it because it's just SO tasty! It's that good.

    Keep things easy

To keep this recipe extra easy, I always brew a bunch of the tea and keep it in a mason jar in my fridge. Then it's ready to go and I'm not spending extra time brewing and cooling.

Mason jar filled with water and 8 tea bags, brewing.

You need Oolong tea for this recipe. You can find it at your local health food store, or here's a link.

I have these fun mason jar lids with straws set so I don't have to refill my 1 serving. It makes a quart!

I would love to connect with you! Let's keep in touch, follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

    Equipment

    • Blender
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup brewed and cooled double strength oolong tea see notes
    • ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk
    • 2 pinches of mineral salt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 Tablespoons Truvia
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 pinch of cayenne pepper

    Instructions

    • Add the brewed tea along with all the other ingredients to a blender.
    • Blend the tea until well combined.
    • Fill a quart sized mason jar (all the way to the top) with ice.
    • Pour the tea over ice. If there is more room in your glass, add a bit of water.
    • Enjoy!

    Notes

Oolong tea can be found at your local health food store.
THM has their own brand of sweeteners. I often use the Super Sweet Blend, but if you don't have their special ingredients, Truvia is on plan and works great. I use plenty of it in other recipes. Just make sure you get the Truvia packets or small container--NOT the baking blend, which contains sugar.
I brew multiple bags of tea in a mason jar so I always have it on hand. The tea is double strength, so just keep that in mind if you do a large batch. You need 2 tea bags per 8 oz water.
This makes one quart, which is technically 1 serving.

If you want to learn more about the Trim Healthy Mama Plan, I would highly recommend you read the books. One book gives you all the detailed information about the plan, and the other is a cookbook that you will want! The THM Shrinker comes from this cookbook.

One of the hardest things about changing your eating habits is learning what you can eat. That's where I found the cookbook to be so helpful. You need ideas especially when you first start out.

      Hi Connie,
OoLong tea does have a fair amount of caffeine, so you may want to keep it to an earlier time. I don't have issues with it, but I typically drink mine around 1-2 when I have it, and although I don't consume much caffeine, it really doesn't affect me. It's really hard to say as we are all created so differently. Oolong contains 37-55 milligrams of caffeine per 8 ounce cup. That's somewhere in between the amount of black tea and green tea, black tea containing the most.

I choose oolong for the health benefits, but you could make this with decaf black tea if you'd like. It's very tasty either way. Reminds me of an iced chai tea.

I am sensitive to caffeine in the afternoons. I see Oolong tea does have caffeine so I am wondering if it will affect me when I try to sleep. Do you drink it all day? Do you notice any side effects from the caffeine?
      Thank you!

I have a measuring spoon that actually says 'pinch' and I use that. Traditionally, a pinch refers to 1/16-1/8 of a teaspoon. You can certainly add more or less. I'm a bit sensitive to heat/spicy, so I'm on the conservative side, but you can do as much as you like for taste. 🙂

How much cayenne do you put in yours? I think I put about 1/8 tsp (measured it in my hand, sorry) and I don't know if the kick I'm tasting is cinnamon or cayenne lol. But I want to make sure I'm using enough.

I bought the same Prince of Peace Organic Oolong Tea (100 bags/box) for $5.99 on Vitacost which was $4. less then Amazon. I made my first Shrinker today. It tasted delicious. And I felt a surge of energy.

You can drink this any time of day, and you can have your coffee too. As far as how often, there isn't really a rule with it. Just think of it as giving your metabolism a boost and putting some really healthy goodness into your body.

Hello im reading the book the 2nd time, hoping ill be more successful this round since I'm not overwhelmed as I was the first time I heard of thm. Question, how often & when in the day can I drink this? Is it coffee replacement or I can drink both?

It does boost your metabolism which promotes weight loss, but losing weight takes time! I feel you! Do you do the Trim Healthy Mama plan or did you just come across this recipe? I've had great success with the plan, and I feel like there's even more recipes out there now and healthy substitutes than there were before. Let me just say that not eating isn't a healthy way to lose. There is certainly a place for fasting, but this tea is not a meal replacement. I'm sorry you don't like it more. You can adjust the flavors if you need to. The cayenne is what really boosts your metabolism. Cinnamon is great for you too. If you want more info on the Trim Healthy Mama plan, feel free to send me an email to chellie@artfrommytable.com if you don't care to discuss here. Hang in there! You can do this!!
