glass of metabolism boosting iced tea. Creamy light brown tea with a white froth on top in a pedestal glass via @artfrommytable

This metabolism boosting tea is creamy and reminds me a lot of an iced chai tea with a kick. You'll want to drink the THM shrinker just because it tastes good, but while you're enjoying your tea, your body will be working hard at speeding up your metabolism and shrinking fat cells.

Creamy iced tea with cinnamon, vanilla and cayenne pepper a little kick in a glass.

The cat's out of the bag.

So the secrets out. I've been following the THM plan for awhile now. In case you aren't familiar, THM stands for Trim Healthy Mama. Have you heard of it?

So it's not really a secret, but I was feeling a little, let's say, 'uncomfortable' in my pants. I feel I need to insert my disclaimer right here. Because if you know me in person, you know I'm a petite sized person. And no one would ever think that I looked like I needed to drop any pounds.

Quart sized mason jar full of oolong tea bags and water.

This wasn't about how I looked to others, it's about how I felt in my skin (and my pants). There, disclaimer said! The result? I'm 17 pounds lighter! You guys! I didn't even know I had that much extra on me! I was going for 8 pounds.

    The Plan~

I'll see if I can give you a brief synopsis on the Trim Healthy Mama. This plan is more about how you pair your foods together than cutting a bunch of stuff out.

Now, yes, you do need to cut some things out. That's pretty standard if you're trying to change your body. But I've found that I really don't miss my old ways, because the benefits far outweigh my old habits.

Also,  there are some excellent substitutions so  I didn't have to compromise my 'real food' philosophy. All eating plans take awhile to adjust to, and this one does too. But I'd say it's well worth it!

Mason jar full of Tea concentrate next to two glasses of metabolism boosting creamy iced tea.

    THM Shrinker

This tea is one of my favorite things to sip on during the day. I love it! I sip it by the pool in the summer, I sip it by the fire in the winter, I sip it while I'm running kids around. I sip it when the holidays are near and when the holidays are here (sorry for going all Dr. Seuss on you).

Trim Healthy Mama Shrinker Tea recipe.

I was drawn to the THM Shrinker for it's metabolism boosting benefits, but I've stayed with it because it's just SO tasty! It's that good.

    Keep things easy

To keep this recipe extra easy, I always brew a bunch of the tea and keep it in a mason jar in my fridge. Then it's ready to go and I'm not spending extra time brewing and cooling.

Mason jar filled with water and 8 tea bags, brewing.

You need Oolong tea for this recipe. You can find it at your local health food store, or here's a link.

I have these fun mason jar lids with straws set so I don't have to refill my 1 serving. It makes a quart!

I would love to connect with you! Let's keep in touch, follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

    Equipment

    • Blender
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup brewed and cooled double strength oolong tea see notes
    • ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk
    • 2 pinches of mineral salt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 Tablespoons Truvia
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 pinch of cayenne pepper

    Instructions

    • Add the brewed tea along with all the other ingredients to a blender.
    • Blend the tea until well combined.
    • Fill a quart sized mason jar (all the way to the top) with ice.
    • Pour the tea over ice. If there is more room in your glass, add a bit of water.
    • Enjoy!

    Notes

Oolong tea can be found at your local health food store.
THM has their own brand of sweeteners. I often use the Super Sweet Blend, but if you don't have their special ingredients, Truvia is on plan and works great. I use plenty of it in other recipes. Just make sure you get the Truvia packets or small container--NOT the baking blend, which contains sugar.
I brew multiple bags of tea in a mason jar so I always have it on hand. The tea is double strength, so just keep that in mind if you do a large batch. You need 2 tea bags per 8 oz water.
This makes one quart, which is technically 1 serving.

If you want to learn more about the Trim Healthy Mama Plan, I would highly recommend you read the books. One book gives you all the detailed information about the plan, and the other is a cookbook that you will want! The THM Shrinker comes from this cookbook.

One of the hardest things about changing your eating habits is learning what you can eat. That's where I found the cookbook to be so helpful. You need ideas especially when you first start out.

Yes, you sure can. What you sub really depends on 2 things, first, the extent of your nut allergy, and second, how strict you are with Trim Healthy Mama.
Coconut milk could be substituted, but I don't know if you are allergic to that one.
Regular milk will work, but then it won't really be 100% on plan. half and half would work and it makes it an S instead of a FP, same with heavy cream. Maybe use a tablespoon or so instead.
You could leave it out completely.
Other milk alternatives are soy, rice, flax, and oat milk. Again, it may alter the type of fuel it is, but it's not really a huge amount. Some people are super strict and others are a little looser. I hope that helps!

Is there something that can be substituted for the almond milk as I'm allergic to nuts?

I don't think it's a matter of one being preferred over the other, except for your personal tastes. The whole THM plan is designed for weight loss. But, that being said, the cayenne in the shrinker does help to kick that metabolism into gear and give it an extra boost. Personally, I enjoy it and the trimmies, kind of depends on which I'm craving at the moment.

Is The Shrinker preferred for weight loss over the Trimmies?

I think it's best if you only prep the tea and make it right before having it. But, if you do decide to make up the whole drink beforehand, you give it a good shake, or throw it in the blender for 20 seconds to mix it up. The spices tend to settle if it sits.

Hi! Can I prep the complete drink the night before or should I prep only the tea and make the rest right before I am going to be having it?

I do 8 tea bags in a quart size mason jar. Then I use about a cup for each serving. Enjoy!

how many tea bags in your mason jar to make larger batch of tea and then how mcuh do you use per serving? Is it just two bags per 8 oz and then use 8 oz each time you make a shrinker?

Yes! You absolutely can, I've done it, and it's great!

Hi Karen, YES! You can use stevia in place of the Truvia. Just check a conversion chart because the amounts will vary. I did a lot of research on sweeteners and sugar alcohols, I'm very anti fake sugar. I do feel comfortable with Erythritol after looking into it, so you will see Truvia as a suggestion on my blog. However, you can ALWAYS substitute stevia. Some people don't like the taste of stevia, but I find it depends on the brand. Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your shrinker!! 😀

Can you use Stevie in place of Trivia? I prefer a healthier sweetener and am hearing Trivia and Erythol are both bad for us.

This is so good and puts a spring in my step instead of a the usual afternoon slump! I made it just like it is posted, but I also added 1/8 ts cardamom and 1/4ts Ginger. Delicious!
