It's getting closer. It's almost time for fresh, locally grown strawberries in Michigan. I can't wait! I just love berries! All of them really, they're good for you, high in antioxidants and lower in sugar than other fruit.

One of my go-to snacks is Greek yogurt mixed with a little sweetener and fresh berries. But when those berries are really fresh? Like locally grown fresh? Oh! There is nothing like it! And this smoothie won't disappoint either.

This Strawberry Cheesecake Protein Smoothie gets protein from Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and pure whey protein. Hi protein, low carb, low fat, right here. If you use a stevia based sweetener instead of the honey, then this is also Trim Healthy Mama approved!

I know I have some THM friends out there... where are you? Can I get a high five?

Now, you don't have to add the whey protein, but I would recommend it for sure. If you do, make sure you get 100% whey isolate protein. The difference between whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate is that the isolate has a higher protein content, and is lower in carbohydrates, lactose, and fat.

You can use frozen berries in place of the fresh ones if you want. I love to freeze a bunch of strawberries when they are in season for peak summer flavor all year long. Here's my hack on the best way to freeze strawberries!

Did I tell you what happened to my strawberries last year? Well, we went to Universal Studios, and while we were away, our refrigerator/freezer stopped working. 🙁  We came home to one stinky mess! The kids had their first day school the next day, and it was a little crazy getting re-settled!

Next time, I'll be asking a neighbor to check my freezer when they check on the cat!

One other ingredient makes this smoothie extra tasty. Can you guess what it is? I actually added some cantaloupe. Make sure it's ripe, so it's nice and sweet! This just adds to the flavor and makes it taste super summery!

Grab some strawberries and let's make a smoothie!
