Ingredients to make a virgin strawberry daiquiri.

Ingredient Notes

  • Sugar and Water– I like to use sugar in the raw, but any kind will do. You can also opt for honey or a stevia based sweetener
  • Strawberries– When buying fresh strawberries, look for ones that are bright red and uniform in color. When buying frozen strawberries, look for ones that have no added sugar. That will add sweetness to the drink and we don’t want it overly sweet. I love buying fresh strawberries in bulk from the farmers market when they are in season and then freezing them myself to enjoy all year long. Follow my guide on how to perfectly freeze strawberries here.
  • Lime– Freshly squeezed lime juice is best.

Expert Tips

  • If you want a subtle rum flavor, add a teaspoon of rum extract to the blender, adjusting the measurement to your liking.
  • A high-powered blender, like Vitamix or Blendtec, is best for this recipe. However, if you don’t have this type, that’s okay! Just be patient because fully blending the ingredients may take a little longer.
  • Frozen strawberries add both flavor and frostiness of this summer drink, fresh strawberries bring authentic flavor and extra sweetness.

Make it a cocktail by adding 1 1/2 ounces of rum to each glass

Garnish Like A Pro!

Adding a garnish really makes the drink stand out. Here are some easy-to-do ideas.

  • Sugar Rim– White sugar around the rim of the glass gives it a frosted appearance and boosts its look. Use a lime wedge around the edge of the glass to moisten it, then carefully dip it into a shallow bowl of sugar at a 45-degree angle for the perfect sugar rim!
  • Lime Wheels– Use fresh or even dehydrated lime wheels to elevate the presentation of the tropical and refreshing summer drink.
  • Fresh Strawberries—Save a fresh strawberry or two to decorate the mocktail by simply cutting a slice into the berry and slipping it onto the rim. You can also balance a skewer of two or three small strawberries inside the glass.
  • Whipped Topping– A fluffy, sweet, and creamy swirl of whipped cream is a classic for daiquiris.

Have fun creating your own take on the perfect garnish. These are especially great for hosting. Use more than one of the ideas above for an extra festive presentation!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a strawberry daiquiri made of?

A classic strawberry daiquiri is made of rum, lime, simple syrup, and strawberries, combined with ice in a blender, producing an icy, frozen beverage. We’ve omitted the rum in this virgin version.

What do I do if my blender isn’t mixing the daiquiri well?

If your blender is having a hard time mixing with that amount of frozen berries, try using your blender mixing rod to help it along. If your mixer doesn’t come with one, try turning your blender off completely and unplugging it from the wall before using a spoon to give it a good mix.

You can also add more fresh strawberries to help it blend smoother against all the frozen ones.

As a last resort, you can also add some water a little at a time, but I try to avoid this so the drink doesn’t get watered down and lose some of its bright strawberry flavor.

Are virgin daiquiris healthy?

It really depends on the ingredients. Sugar is the main unhealthy ingredient, but you can use honey, which is less refined, or a stevia based sugar replacement or even monk fruit sweetener. There are many different brands of stevia and the measurements will be different, so use a comparison chart. Be aware of unhealthy sweeteners such as aspartame.

Are there any alcohol-free substitutes for rum in a daiquiri?

Rum extract will give you a bit of the rum flavor. Or try a rum alternative, such as Ritual Zero Proof Rum.

Storing and Freezing Tips

Because this is a frozen beverage, it’s best enjoyed freshly made. However, if you want to save leftover strawberry daiquiri, you can add it to an airtight container or freezer bag, and place it in the freezer for up to a month.

I recommend pouring it into ice cube trays, freezing, and then store the cubes in an air tight freezer bag.

To serve, add the cubes back to the blender, and blend to achieve the frozen texture. Add a little liquid if your blender needs help breaking it down.
